Virginia fu l’artefice dell’Operazione Farnese organizzò, infatti, l’incontro in Vaticano fra Papa Pio XII e il Comandante supremo delle SS il generale Karl Wolff . Lo scopo dell’operazione, raggiunto, era di salvare Roma dalla distruzione e dagli spargimenti di sangue durante la ritirata tedesca, e portò anche alla liberazione del giurista ed esponente della Resistenza Giuliano Vassalli, dal carcere di via Tasso dov’era detenuto dalle SS.
